Is canyoning safe?
Yes — with certified guides, the right equipment and small groups, canyoning is a low-risk adventure.
Canyoning looks wild — rappelling down waterfalls, jumping into pools, sliding over polished rock — but it is one of the most controlled adventure sports there is when run properly. The danger people imagine comes from doing it untrained and alone; the reality of a guided trip is methodical, briefed and equipped.
In Montenegro, our canyoning guides are trained mountain-rescue professionals. Every guest wears a wetsuit, helmet and harness, descends on doubled ropes, and follows a safety briefing before entering the canyon. Guides watch the weather closely and will reschedule rather than enter a canyon at risk of flash flooding. If you are new to it, start with a beginner canyon like Drenoštica near Budva before stepping up to Nevidio or Škurda.
