What climbing grades are in Montenegro?
200+ sport routes from IV to X+ UIAA and 500+ multi-pitch lines, almost all on superb limestone.
Montenegro's rock is overwhelmingly limestone, and the grade range is wide enough to keep both first-timers and hardened projectors busy — over 200 bolted sport routes and more than 500 multi-pitch lines across the country.
Most local topos use the UIAA scale (Roman numerals such as IV, VI+, VIII-). As a rough guide, UIAA IV–V suits beginners, VI–VII is solid intermediate ground, and VIII and above is advanced. The gentler grades cluster on the sport crags near Podgorica, Plužine, Kolašin and Bar, while the hardest projects and tallest faces are in Durmitor and Prokletije. Your guide can translate UIAA into French or American (YDS) grades if that is what you are used to — read the full climbing guide for the area-by-area picture.
