Canyoning from Budva
There is no canyon in Budva itself — the nearest is Drenoštica, fifteen minutes inland. We collect you from Budva and have you back for the afternoon.
Let's clear up the thing everyone asks first: there is no canyon in Budva. Budva is a beach town — an old town, a marina, a string of sandy bays. The canyons are inland, in the limestone behind the coast. What makes Budva an excellent canyoning base is not a gorge in the town but how close the nearest one is: Drenoštica sits roughly fifteen minutes' drive inland, which means a half-day descent and back to the beach by the afternoon.
So when you book "canyoning in Budva" with us, what actually happens is a pickup in Budva and a short transfer to Drenoštica. That is the whole trick, and it is why the coast is the easiest place in Montenegro to try canyoning for the first time.
Which canyon do you actually go to from Budva?
Almost always Drenoštica. It is the closest canyon to Budva and the most forgiving in the country: sun-warmed water, slides polished smooth by the river, deep green pools to swim, abseils in the four-to-twelve-metre range and jumps topping out around five metres. Crucially, nearly every jump is optional — you can rope down instead — so a nervous first-timer and a confident teenager can do the same canyon side by side.
Drenoštica is a genuinely warm, bright, coastal canyon rather than a cold technical one. If you have wondered whether canyoning is too extreme for you, this is where to find out.
Can you do Nevidio or Škurda from Budva?
Nevidio is in Durmitor, on the far side of the country from the coast, and Škurda drops down the mountainside behind Kotor old town. Both are serious steps up from Drenoštica — Nevidio in particular is a demanding aquatic canyon that opens only once the spring snowmelt subsides, roughly from late June.

Do I need any experience?
No. Drenoštica assumes none. You get a wetsuit, helmet, harness and descender, a briefing on flat ground before you enter the water, and a guide who sets the pace. You should be able to swim and be comfortable in water. Beyond that it is walking, sliding, swimming and a handful of short rope descents with the guide managing the rope.

What should I bring?
A swimsuit to wear under the wetsuit, trainers or water shoes with grip that you do not mind soaking — not flip-flops — a towel, sunscreen, water and a full change of dry clothes. Can children come?
Drenoštica is one of the canyons we most often run with families, and beginner canyons generally suit children from around six upwards with a guardian. What else can you do from Budva?
Budva sits in the middle of the coast, which makes it a flexible base: Tivat airport is about 25 minutes away, and coastal buses connect Kotor, Bar and Podgorica.
